Cost per sale (CPS)Advertising

by admin on November 12, 2008

By placing advertisements on your websites for ‘affiliate’ companies, you earn a commission fee when a visitor to your site clicks on the ad and/or makes a purchase. Cost per sale (CPS) is by far the most popular method of affiliate marketing, with 80% of affiliates employing this form of payment. With CPS, if you were hosting an affiliate’s advertisement you would be paid when the person who clicked on the ad from your site actually bought something. Rates for commission of CPS generally go up to about 15% of the sale generated.

Sam Collora didn’t set out to become a pee farmer, but he’s built a thriving business selling deer urine to hunters. Pure deer urine has a shelf life of about 60 days, so we only collect it seasonally to make sure it stays fresh for the fall.   Collecting deer urine resembles a conventional dairy operation. We own a sporting goods store that sells our deer urine along with bow-hunting gear and paintball equipment.

If No One Sees It, Is It an Invention?

by admin on October 31, 2008

That video, together with others that Mr. Lee, now 28, posted on YouTube, have drawn people to the innovator as well as his innovations.

When he completed his degree this year at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute of Carnegie Mellon, he received “lots of offers from all the big places,” according to Paul Dietz, who convinced Mr. Lee to join him in the applied sciences group of Microsoft’s entertainment and devices division.

Before posting his own ideas, Mr. Lee watched other people’s videos about the Wiimote.

In late 2002, Mr. Lee started a small company to build and sell an invention that helps filmmakers minimize camera-shaking.

The company recently gave Mr. Dietz permission to go public with a new invention of his own: a drinking glass that, when placed on the Microsoft Surface table — a table with an interactive, multitouch display built into the top — alerts a waiter to offer a refill.

Pet fashion

by admin on October 27, 2008

Griffiths is the owner of Miyow & Barkley, an online business (www.miyowandbarkley.com) aimed not at human fashion victims but at dog and cat owners willing to pay good money to see their beloved pets stepping out in designer clothing and accessories.

It’s a business idea that took shape in 2006 after a fruitless search for a jumper for Griffiths’ red Burmese cat, Jessi (”he likes to go outside”). Behind the slick pictures and polished design of the Miyow & Barkley website, Griffiths makes a point to offer personal service (she sends a personal confirmation email to every customer) and includes precise sizing charts to ensure the clothing fits.

”My whole life is spent on my computer,” says Griffiths, admitting she’s addicted to checking her emails and planning new ideas for her business.
